The
Right Honourable the Prime Minister, Mr. Pakalitha Bethuel
Mosisili, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Mathato
Mosisili, the Honourable Minister of Trade and Industry,
Cooperatives and Marketing, Mr. Popane Lebesa, and other
dignitaries of the Lesotho Government, led the Lesotho
delegation to the 13th Session of the General Conference of
the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
that took place on the 07 – 11th Dec, 2009 in Vienna,
Austria.
The conference was opened on the 7th December 2009. The
opening was officiated by statements by heads of state and
government. During the opening ceremony, the Right
Honourable the Prime Minister delivered a key note address
with special reference to the impact of global economi c
slow down in Lesotho and the opportunities it presents in
terms of green industries.
He
also participated in the "Global Economic slowdown; the
Impact on Manufacturing " forum in which key elements of the
global economic crisis, with special reference to its
effects on the global integration of factor markets (goods,
capital and labour) were presented and special attention was
paid to the reversal in manufacturing and trade
globalization. The forum also looked at the transmission
channels through which manufacturing has been impacted,
particularly in developing countries, and the potential
responses to mitigate the adverse consequences.
He was the guest of honor in the round table discussion for
Africa, titled "Towards Sustainable Bio-fuels Industries in
Africa". He objectively and substantially contributed to
discussions that focused on the relevance of biofuels to
Africa’s growth prospects and the continent’s contribution
to the global shift towards low-carbon economies and
suggested a framework for enhanced coordination among key
players in the field of sustainable biofuels development in
Africa, taking into consideration relevant national and
regional initiatives.
